Can you enter Canada and reenter the US with a green card?

  • We are going to Canada, but my grandma is not a citizen, but she has a green card. Is it possible for her to go to Canada and back into the United States with just this, or does she need additional papers? We are only staying for 2 weeks. Thanks in advance!

  • Answer:

Yes, a green card meets current WHTI standards and is acceptable for travel from the US to Canada and for returning to the US. No additional papers are required by the person.

Hi, Yes she can do that. Canada gives this privilege to US Green Card holders to visit them without the need of Canadian Visa. I have seen many of my friends doing this. Dont worry and enjoy your Canada Trip.

Hello, Yes, you can enter Canada with a US green card just as if you were a US citizen - no problem. Cheers, Michael Kelly (Canadian)

A green card allows you to enter the United States of America. Canada is not part of the United States of America, so the green card is of no use in Canada. Your grandma needs a valid passport, whether she comes for an afternoon, a week or a month.
