Will copies of birth certificates suffice to travel by airplane without state issued ID's?

Minors traveling US to Canada w/o govt issued photo id?

  • My brother (age 14) and I (age 16) are driving from the US to Canada in a bus with other kids to a youth conference. We're leaving in 6 days and don't have government issued photo id - the dmv says it'll take a couple weeks to send us a photo id card. Will it be a problem if we just travel with our birth certificates, a letter of parental consent, a temporary dmv non-photo id, and our school photo ids?

  • Answer:

as long as you have some sort of photo id & a birth certif & consent letter, you should be fine.

Travel across the borders with Canada and Mexico now requires a valid passport. If you have applied for a U. S. passport but have not yet received it because of the backlog, you will be allowed to return to the U. S. if you show the receipt for fees paid to issue a passport and your birth certificate. Those are the requirements for Americans. You may have another problem; will Canada allow you to enter the country without the proper documentation? Try calling the Canadian consulate in your city or the Canadian embassy in Washington.
