What do you need to get a Canadian Passport?

Do I need to get my picture retaken to renew my Canadian passport?

  • I need to get my passport renewed every 5 years. Do I need to buy a passport picture from a photo studio? What is the renewal procedure, do I just fill out some forms at the passport office or is there more that I have to do?

  • Answer:

You get the form from the post office or download it online. Fill it out. Provide the supporting documents required as well as the required signatures signatures...pay the fee and send in the form. And yes, you will require new photos. They don't renew passports any more like they used to (where they put a sticker on the inside to extend the expiry date). They issue a whole new passport.

If you have had a passport within the past 6 years, you may be able to use the simplified renewal application process. See link for details. You will need two new photos but they don't have to be signed by a guarantor.
