Can you enter Canada from the US with a green card?

Can I enter Canada with just a US Green Card, without bringing my passport?

  • Over the past 3 months, have anyone successfully entered Cananda through car or train with just a US Green Card (without using a passport)? Some people say you don't need a passport if you are entering through land, some say you need. So I'm a bit confused and want to know if anyone have actually entered Canada without a passport recently. Many thanks! (Those who entered by handing both a passport + US Green Card to the border officer don't need to answer this question).

  • Answer:

Yes ,you can. Green Card regulations did not change on June 1st 2009 and you can FLY with them into Canada , Mexico and Bermuda. You can fly back to the U.S , No passport required. They are good for all forms of travel

No you can't.You will need a valid passport from your home country and green card, no matter how you're travelling, by air, land or sea.

No you will need your home country's passport along with the Green Card to go to Canada and then reenter the US. A passport, enchanced Driver's License or NEXUS card is required when going between Canada, US, Mexico and the Caribbean.
