How to study in Canada?

How can I study in Canada?

  • I'm from Europe and I am interesting on studying in a public university in Canada! Is this feasible? May you give me some information about the programs? Thank ya!

  • Answer:

If you want to do an undergraduate degree in Canada, you would apply as an international student. Typically you would need to meet a standard on the TOEFL or other English or French exam, as well as have good enough marks in your high school subjects, to be accepted into a program. Then you would get a study permit allowing you to enter the country and register at the university. International student tuition fees vary from about $15,000 to $26 000 per two-semester academic year. You'll need to show that you have funding to cover your living expenses as well as your tuition fees. There may be limited opportunities to work on campus, and if you can get a work permit later in your stay you could be allowed to get a job off campus with some restrictions. There are two potentially lower-cost ways to study in Canada. One is to come for one or two semesters on an exchange program from your home university in Europe. You still need to pay living expenses and travel, but instead of paying international student fees, you pay the usual fees to your home institution. The other possibility is to apply to a graduate program (that is, a master's or doctoral program) where some of the students are offered a stipend in exchange for work. The work may be teaching (more common in language programs) or research (more common in sciences), and you would need to manage your time to fulfill the duties of the job as well as your studies. You can't live well on a graduate-student stipend, but if you are careful and frugal and don't have dependents you can probably cover most of your expenses. I'm not sure what kind of information you want about programs. Browse the universities' websites to see what they offer.

to be a international student in canada it cost a lot of money, my friend she is a internation student from china and she has to pay $22 000 a year but she is in highschool. Being a internation student you cant get a job, so you cant make money to pay for your tuition so you have to have a good amount of money before applying. you should check out the University of British Columbia here is the website for internation students http://connectionsforlife.ubc.ca/ it has all the information about attending UBC as a international student. good luck :)
