What to do with the connecting flight when Air Canada on strike?
-
My flight is this Saturday. According to A/C web site, if the flight is cancelled, they will allow me to book another flight (A/C or Jazz) if there're seats. That's fine but I will be connecting in HongKong with Pacific Airways. What happens to my connecting flight? Will A/C notify and arrange with Pacific Airways to put me on another flight once I rebook my A/C flight? Or do I need to cancel and rebook my connecting flight with Pacific Airways (if so, who will pay ?)

Strikes are never easy for customers, and it is exactly what the striking employees want...you as a customer get inconvenienced and put pressure on the Air Canada management on their behalf. The people who are threatening to strike are the flight attendants. How that will affect flights is uncertain. Air Canada management have not really stated what their plans are for if the strike happens. Will the managers fill the aisles on the planes? Or will they just cancel the flights? What you will have to do is contact Air Canada or your travel agent and find out what the plans are for connecting flights. Normally, they will make every effort to get you on a flight (whether it is with their airline or another that flies the same routes) so you can get to your connecting flight on time. I see on Air Canada's website, they have an Online Rebooking website for Cancelled or Delayed flights. You should go there, put in your name and original booking reference (if you booked from Air Canada directly) and see if there is an alternate flight available for you. https://services.aircanada.com/irropweb/selfservice/rebook?execution=e1s1 If not, you have the option to cancel the flight and refund your money, or if that is not an option, you need to speak with someone (probably best to call and get someone on the line) and decide what you need to do to get to your destination (Hong Kong) on time to catch the connection. You will need to be forceful. This is a situation that is out of your control. If YOU were calling to cancel due to illness or some other reason, THEY would expect you to pay a cancellation fee or lose your non-refundable tickets. Since THEY are cancelling on you, they should be responsible and make sure you either get your money back or give you some other way to get there.
