What does make you prefer NoVa to any other place in America?

What is Nova Scotia like?

  • I've been thinking of moving there after I finish college next year. Right now I live on Vancouver Island, BC, but I really want new surroundings and sadly I'm not very satisfied here. I do have some family who live in Halifax and my family's heritage is Scottish so I think it would be a really nice place to be more involved in my culture. I've heard it's gorgeous there too. I would prefer to live a little in the country and I wouldn't mind having to drive into the city for work. I have started my own buisness where I do decorations, set-ups, etc for parties/weddings. It's taken off well, and I've made plenty of money in the last month (much more then working at a store or office). I was just wondering if buying a home expensive? And are there good job opportunities? Around here there is no way you can even buy a house because things are so expensive and even if you had a full-time job, you still wouldn't make enough money, which is why I started my business. Any info would be great. Thanks so much!

Well, as someone who LIVES in Halifax, I'd recommend it! I moved here from SK, but have lived in AB, BC, and NB before this. I've only been here about a year, and I love Halifax. It depends where you want to live, but I'll vouch for Halifax for sure. It's a great size, not too small, but big enough to have most of the things you'd want. I haven't had the chance to get out and explore much else of the province, but every time someone comes to visit from elsewhere, we HAVE to go to Peggy's Cove, and it IS beautiful. I'm moving to QC for a job in a couple weeks, but if I ever have the chance, I'd love to move back here. I can't tell you much about how much homes are here, or job opportunities. Check out mls.ca and check out homes. jobbank.gc.ca and check out jobs. It's all going to depend on the job, and the place you want to live. If you're cool with living more 'out of town', and say, driving into Halifax for work, you'll be able to find something much cheaper thank IN the city, and DEFINITELY cheaper than where you're currently living. Good luck with your decision.

Stay on the west coast. The Maritimes are literally hell on earth. The people tend to be unsophisticated sniveling hicks and the whole region smells like rotting fish.
