Which is a better minor to go along with accounting?

If I'm an English speaker with an Associates diploma in accounting, should I go to Toronto or Ottawa to live?

  • I am an English speaker who knows a little french to get by but I do not really consider myself to be bilingual(to speak French and English perfectly). Now the thing is that right now I am planning on taking a Associates diploma program in accounting in Algonquin college(a community college) in Ottawa. After I get the diploma, I am planning on either staying in Ottawa and work there or go move to Toronto and work there instead. If I go to either of those cities by the way, I would work as a bookkeeper or as an accounting clerk. I hear that Toronto is really expensive to live by the way but I also know for sure that there is a bigger ratio of English only jobs too so maybe it could be a good trade off. Also, according to one web site(http://www.workingincanada.gc.ca/), if I work in Toronto as a bookkeeper, the starting salary would be like around 12 dollars an hour. If I were to work in Ottawa though which is a place that embraces bilingualism, the starting salary would be like around 13 dollars an hour. Now the question is, if I do get the accounting diploma, which city should I most likely move into, Toronto or Ottawa? Are there any other cities in Ontario that could be good places to move into also besides Toronto and Ottawa by the way? Thanks in advance. p.s. If anyone wants to know where I am from, well I was born in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.

  • Answer:

Unless you have a government job you don't need French to work in Ottawa. My son and DIL both work in Ottawa. My BIL and SIl have lived there for 40 years and their 2 sons and their wives work there. None of them speak more than High school French. If I had to choose between Ottawa and Toronto I'd choose Ottawa hands down

English speaker from where? If you are a foreigner you will not be able to just "get a job" and stay in Canada once your studies are done. If you are a Canadian then you should go where the jobs are.
