How can I rent a car in Saint John, New Brunswick without a credit card?

  • I need to get to Montreal next week (slight urgency) and the cheapest method seems to be by car rental. However I never bothered to get a credit card (too much temptation and risk of extreme debt). I'm over the 25 yr age restriction and I do have a valid driver's license, just no credit card. I called Budget nd they said that their rentals can be paid by debit card but that the reservation had to be made by credit card and that the credit card had to be in my name. I called Enterprise and they do allow full rentals without a credit card except with them I have to stay within the province and well Montreal is not in New Brunswick so that doesn't work for me. Can anyone help me here????? I don't suppose anyone here is willing to rent out their vehicle lol...

    Pre Paid Credit Card, Just make sure that there is enough to cover the rental and most rental places charge $200 above the rental rate.

Hard to rent a car anywhere in the world without a credit card. They might take a wad of cash if you wanted to prepay, but even that is doubtful because the credit card is their protection against you simply not bringing the car back or bringing it back in a damaged condition. Sorry.

Maybe if you left them a few thousand dollars cash or something. There is no good reason why they would let you use their car that costs tens of thousands of dollars without having a way to re-coup their losses.
