Is an onward ticket required for a tourist visiting Canada on a E.U. passport?
-
I'm a Canadian citizen in Argentina for a few months. My girlfriend from Argentina will be traveling with me to Canada for the first time. She is Argentinean/Spanish citizen so she'll be flying on her Spanish passport to avoid requiring a tourist visa. After 3 to 6 months in Canada, we might fly to stay at my family's house in Poland (since we both have E.U. passports we can live there as long as we want w/o being kicked out after 6 months because of tourist limitations in Argentina/Canada). Or we may return to Argentina. We are not decided yet, it depends on how we feel in a few months. From Argentina to Canada, we're planning to fly with AeroMexico. Today I came across this page on the AeroMexico site: http://www.aeromexico.com/us/TravelInformation/BeforeYouPurchase/RegulationsAndPolicies/canada-travel-requirements.html. It says that an onward ticket is required for tourists visiting Canada. The Canadian Government website doesn't specifically state that an onward ticket is required. Just says that there will be an interview and they have to be satisfied that the tourist will leave after the allowed time of stay in Canada. Does my girlfriend really need an onward ticket? Or can we just get the one-way tickets to Canada for now, as we were originally planning. Thanks for your assistance.

Answer:
I think you're probably going to require that ticket-at the very least.Looking at this from the standpoint of an Immigration officer I can't see how she's going to satisfy the requirement that shes going to make me believe she will leave Canada when the time's up-I see it going like this.. Officer-"Are you employed anywhere?" GF "Well..no"" Officer-"How long exactly do you intend to stay in Canada?" GF-"3 months...maybe 6" Officer-"So...you don't know..?" GF- "I don't know" Officer-"Where are you going after you leave Canada?" GF-"Poland.or...maybe back to Argentina" Officer-"So...you don't know..? GF-" I don't know" Customs/Immigration Officials don't like "I don't know"s You yourself say these questions aren't answered..and you can bet they will be asked Then there are the financial issues..apparently-neither one of you is employed full-time anywhere.. -Perhaps you should contact the Canadian Embassy in Buenos Aires for further direction on this...
