Places to work at age 14?

  • What is the best place to work at age 14 in Ontario Canada? I know tim hortons hires and so do the grocery stores. Do movie theatres hire at 14 or HMV? How about a movie rental place? What would be the best place out to work at age 14? Thanks Brendan

    Major chains, except for a small handful, tend to set the limit at 16. Hiring younger than that is at the discretion of employers, so you're best bet is probably to look at small, mostly family-run (ie non-chain) businesses. That being said, working at a timmies for a couple years will make you appreciate future jobs a lot more and so maybe isn't a bad idea.

any fast food, small restaurants (non chains) are your best bets.. ps. good luck getting into hmv, even after turning 16, the amount of people that apply to that place a day is rediculous

A lot of fast food restaurants will hire at 14. When I was 14, my first job was at McDonald's in Toronto. A friend of mine had a job at Swiss Chalet, but I can't recall if she was 16? Most mall stores and large chains require you to be at least 16; some 18.
