What is the best place to view Aurora Borealis from?

Where is the best place to see the Aurora Borealis in Canada?

  • I live in Nova Scotia and I wondered what the nearest place for me to see the Northern Lights would be? Many thanks

  • Answer:

Definitely the Yukon. They even have an aurora forecast - http://www.auroraborealisyukon.com/auroracast/

i live in the Yukon, and it covered most of the sky last night. IMHO, the best Aurora predictor is the Alaskan Geophysical Institute: http://www.gi.alaska.edu/AuroraForecast/ It is the easiest to use, and had a map where you can see where the best viewing is. Which, unfortunately, is a LONG way from Nova Scotia. Churchill Manitoba is also not bad, and Yellowknife is good too, although the city lights will make a difference. Watson Lake has an Aurora observing place: http://www.northernlightscentre.ca/

The BEST place in Canada is the Yukon.

Just look at the map of Canada and find a major city situated the furthest north... Edmonton is probably it, but it's far away... I'd recommend Quebec City instead....
