How would you compare Canada to the US?

How would you compare the dress code in Canada to those of UK and US?

  • Based on my personal experiences, I would say the dress code in the UK is mostly formal while it is business casual in the US. In fact, in the US you can be as casual as you want to be when dressing for work and basically, a lot of things are forgiveable. How would you rate the dress code in Corporate Canada?

  • Answer:

In the business world, especially in hub cities of Toronto, it is very conservative dress, most places don't allow open toed shoes. If you are in a 'creative' position, they may allow more leeway for dressing with personality. Canadians are typically more liberal than Americans, however most dress modestly. I have yet to see someone wearing a flannel shirt outside of tiny sub-towns, to the person who insulted above. My advice is to take an hour or two, all day if you've got time, and walk around the city you are in and observe how people typically dress. This will give you the best idea on how to build a wardrobe.

The dress code in Canada is similar to that of the USA. The UK is far more professional and people seem to care more about their appearance there.

just flannel shirts...but in the corporate world, canadians wear something called a canadian tuxedo, which is nothing more than a denim jacket and denim pants
