How long would shipping take?

How long does standard shipping take from Canada to Australia and is it safe?

  • From eBay using paypal, I bought an iPod Touch from Canada and the guy seems genuine. He now messaged me and is saying that standard shipping may take over a month! How long would a Canada to Australia ship usually take? And also is standard shipping actually safe - because it doesnt have a tracking number... Anyone had any experience with standard shipping? Please help me out :) I've never bought anything from overseas online so I am kind of freaking out.

  • Answer:

Shipping from Canada to Australia will take considerable time. Not only does the package have to go through two mail services (Canada Post and Australia Post), it must pass border security leaving Canada and clear Australian Customs coming into your country. When I purchased things from any country other than USA, there was usually a 3-4 week delay, although I hear it can be as much as 4-6 weeks. What you can do is ask the eBay seller if he can supply the Canada Post tracking number so that you can confirm that the package actually was shipped. You won't see it tracked all the way to your house (Canada Post will only track it until they hand it off to Australia Post), but at least it may ease your mind that the seller actually did send a parcel. And if you want to be able to completely track a parcel, in the future I would ask the seller if they will ship via UPS or FedEx. Doing that will provide a tracking number that you can see all the way until it reaches you, and it takes less time to get there. But of course, it will cost more for shipping.

What's the guys eBay feedback like? I've only ever purchased from China (to Australia), and I usually have to wait a good 3 - 4 weeks for that, so he's probably not too far out on his timing. If there is no tracking, that means he is not protected, but you will be if something goes wrong, because you paid with Paypal and you're the recipient.

That would be correct-standard "surface" shipping would take at least that-by the time it goes on a boat in Canada ,crosses the Pacific Ocean, gets to Australia, goes through Aussie Customs and gets to you.(see link below from Canada Post).Stuff does NOT go by airmail unless you pay extra for it.You could contact the seller and ask for a rate quote for air shipping but expect it to be (at least) 3 times as high as the surface rate. http://www.canadapost.ca/cpo/mc/business/productsservices/shipping/international_surface.jsf
