Is it legal to pass pets past the American border to Canada?

How can an American get liked by more Canadians?

  • A lot of my posts are ridiculous and sarcastic and funny/not funny, and I take responsibility for my own stupidity, but now there's something serious I want to express to Canadians. Full-heartedly, I want to be well liked by Canadians (including Quebec). I want them to know I've travelled to Canada 4 times in the last year (Ottawa, Windsor-Guelph via Detroit, Winnipeg, Quebec City) and cut back my budget everywhere else to venture into Canada because I care about your country, and because I want to show there is 1 or more Americans who does care about your country. Every trip I took into Canada I purchased something unique to place on my wall and refrigerator back in the states (Maryland), including beer bottles (Alexander Keiths and Belle Guele), Poppes Cherry Soda from Stratford, ONT, the Effigy pass from Quebec City, a poster of Prince Albert NAtional Park in Saskatoon, the program for WInnipeg Folk Fest. I did this so I can recreate the sense of Canada being right in my own neck of the woods. Then I bought history books from local shops in Canada. And I have loaded my ipod with Canadian folk music. I come to Canada and Quebec because I embrace the sense that north of the border, with less value placed on materialistic fancies, condos on the beach, violent movies, instant gratification, you get a place filled with nature, real people, communities built for what they are naturally, things that on the surface do not capture the vibrant attention of an Obama Ralley, but rather you listen in carefully and you hear the calling of a land and its people that has to grow on you and then you become a part of it. This is Canada. With this said, I wish I had more Canadian friends, it would make me a lot happier as a human being.

"Hi".....Eric S , it can be remedied eventually and It's a little thing but it's a start and it concerns your weather and news channels.....sounds silly but have a read. Canada knows about the rest of this big Global community we all live in but U.S citizens don't and in fact some don't even know where we are. You are the exception Eric S but do this little experiment for yourself....watch any U.S. weather station or any news channel and you'll see that at the Canada/U.S. border the weather seems to stop there and there are no Canadian cities named...it's just a huge empty vacuous supposedly frozen void with igloos and Polar bears and Maple syrup. *lol* But on a serious note how can we really appreciate a neighbour that snubs it's nose at us and doesn't even show it's populace where we are . We don't mind albeit it we get a chuckle out of that however that doesn't preclude us from liking an individual from the U.S and kindly bear in mind I am speaking in general terms. Just look at the questions posed in here regarding Canada....most Americans I have met are great and extremely nice but those are tourists that had the balls to come visit us and find things out for themselves as Canada is not taught in your school system and history to the U.S is the American Revolution.! Think about this Eric the majority of your population is a bit isolationist really and didn't even know where Iraq or Viet Nam or Korea was at one time when there was peace ...now U.S citizens know though because at the time the different situations predicated that they pick up and look at a World map! Just food for thought Eric S but get your TV and news stations to smarten up and get worldly, we're your neighbours but you don't consider us as your neighbor. You know more about Mexico because of immigration and drug problems but nothing of us and we get the impression you simply don't care or are to lazy to learn. We are a pretty good country that does pull it weight without being a 'braggart" and is respected by the rest of the World in general with the exception of you know who ! *lol* INCIDENTLY.......I just NOW turned on CNN and they are right now talking about the mortgage rates (ad nauseum) and nothing about Mr. Obama's vist to Canada which is happening right now and not even the Press confereance after with both Mr. Harper and Mr. Obama together and answering questions ! Instead they are showing the lady with the octuplets...unbelievable actually. *lol* I would think that , that would have been a great opportunity for CNN to show "Canada and Mr. Obama together" and our friendly association with you. There are lots of Canadians there cheering and showing their appreciation and support for this man. Canadian news is carrying it in full for the rest of the world to see. I rest my case. Glad for the input and I like your questions although I don't answer a lot of them ! *S* (Michael C...)

Eric, you have done well to make yourself better educated outside the US borders. The best thing you can do now is educate your fellow Americans and pass on to them what you have learned.

Well there certainly are a couple of nasty responses before this. To be honest, your sarcastic questions make me uncomfortable and I mostly avoid them. It's nice of you to care about relations between the two countries. I have met very few Americans that I didn't like but some of your countrymen, especially writing about immigration, skin colour and religion here, leave me open mouthed. The two countries have enough in common that we should at least get along. Isn't that what your president and our PM are discussing right now?

Some Canadians (not myself included) define their nation in terms of being "not American". Alot of English Canadian nationalists are anti-american for the sole purpose that this nation (English speaking) was traditionally carved out to not be American. When you define who you are in terms of what you're not, you tend to have a negative attitude towards that thing you are not. Particularlyl when one of the two countries is several magnitudes larger and more powerful than the other one. When you read those Canadian history books I think you'll realize that most of what is now Canada was carved out by the British. The first major influx of English speaking inhabitants to this country were loyalists from the United States. The only struggles we've ever had for independence (REbilliions in Upper and Lower Canada) were in order to achieve short termed independence and US hegemony (see Mackenzie and Papineau). The Durham report specifically stated the only way to maintain the North American Empire was to carve out a sense of nationalism in Canada separate from that of the United States. In short, I think it worked marvellously. Throughout much of Canada's frontier history... Americans were the first to move North of the border. They were the first to establish the ranch industry on the prairies, to develop the WEstern towns and communities in which I hail from. I think had it not been for the War of 1812 Upper Canada (and hence, all the West) would have been annexed by the United States... in much a similar way Texas was. All of the main equations were there... major American immigration, demands from the immigrants (which is why Upper Canada was carved out in the first place), and then overall rebellion. The only thing missing was rebellion, becuase there was a war. Unfortunatlye, most countries are shaped by war. When we fought someone off our land, it's obviously engraved in our sense of nationalism. It would be like America re-joining Great Britain... it would never happen.. it could never happen. So.. to cut to the chase... I view Canada and the US alot like North and South Korea, but with much fewer political or quality of life differences. Same people (save Quebec), different history and politics. I mean look closely at your Articles of Confederation and see Article 11 (it may be 10 I dunno_)... the clause automoaticlaly approving Canada for statehood. Our specific destinies were engraved in blood long ago on the fields of Yorktown. Anyways.... you don't have to do anything to be more liked by Canadians. Some will dislike you simply because you are Americna. More of us open minded folks will ignore the nation and just judge on principle and character.

Id like u better if u stayed in texas...just take a look at ur comrade's answer above....."socialist medicine"..?? what a loser..ROFLMAO..if u want a insurance agent to make medical decisions instead of a medical expert, we're ok with that...and if u want to pay premiums to a big insurance comapny that's getting rich from ur healthcare system and take out a mortgage for a necessary operation, we're ok with that too...just pleeease stay over there

Well, I like you! :)

Acting nicely to someone will usually result in you being liked. Although I wouldn't try to hard with Quebec, they don't even like the rest of Canada. :)

Who really cares if Canada likes the US? When did the Canadians have a voice in what we do? Sure, they have a failed socialist medical system that results in their high risk pregnancies and their cancer patients coming across the border. And, there gas prices are ridiculous. They caved into Islam so much that the Halifax Y could not build a swimming pool surrounded by windows bc the muslims would be offended. I lived in Canada for six years. IT is not my role model.

Change your name to Obama and Canada will treat you like a god. (only half-joking btw)
