Best place to study abroad in Canada?

Where is the ideal place to study in Canada? Toronto or Ottawa.?

  • Im doing a graduate studies in England but i wanna study another field of graduate studies in Canada soon. I know Toronto is a cool and lively city. However, i was looking at Ottawa; i know its th e capital city but its that all there is to it? It seems kind of quiet and dull but i may be wrong? Is it also modernised and lively with places to see and go to?

  • Answer:

Ottawa is not as culturally diverse as Toronto, a lot smaller, with certainly less to do and explore. However, it isn't dead - it has a small downtown district that really comes alive at night, it's quite safe, and it's very pretty. That said, I don't really like it there. I prefer Toronto, which is less scenic but more exciting, and has significantly better food options, and always something interesting going on. You really should also consider Montreal, which can be the best of both worlds - it has a lot of Ottawa's old city charms and beauty, along with a smaller size, but a good spoonful of Toronto's cultural scene, especially if you like music. It's also diverse, although less so, but if you're at all artsy or alternative, it's a better bet than Ottawa. That said, if you can't speak French and don't want to learn it, I really don't recommend it - everyone there speaks English as a second language, but you get much better treatment if you're fluent in French. So ultimately, it depends on what kind of person you are. If you're like me, and you want to be where it's all happening (night or day), you want to live in a huge, diverse place with lots of unique little neighbourhoods, and you want a sense of freedom - I'd go with Toronto. If you want something a little calmer and prettier, but that still has the awesome arts and culture scene, some great night life, but the necessity of knowing some French, go with Montreal. If you want something that is slow during the day, but pretty with a nice marketplace downtown, and loosens up a bit at night, go with Ottawa. Also go with Ottawa if you're uncomfortable around other races, since the people there are mostly either older and white, or younger students. It's not my cup of tea but maybe it's yours. All three cities are modernized, but Toronto and Montreal are more liberal and cutting edge, and Ottawa is more conservative. Frankly, once you've seen the museums, the market, and the art gallery in Ottawa, I'm not sure what you'd do but drink at night. Hope this helps!

Toronto is the city to visit in Canada, over 4 million strong. It's also the most cosmopolitan & culturally diverse city. We have two major universities (Toronto & York);-} & many affiliated colleges, with university credentials. Ottawa is much smaller, quieter, & laid back; interesting to visit as a tourist & history buff.
