Well, you are not going to the cheap places, that's for sure! Count on at least $100 per night for motel. You could do better, but many, especially downtown Toronto, are typically a lot more. Food will also vary quite a bit. Fast food is pretty cheap - say $5 for breakfast, $8-10 for lunch and supper. Restaurant meals would me more - half again, or double. A fancy place more again. Transportation will be an issue - how do you plan on getting from Toronto to Niagara? Bus, I expect, unless you rent a car, which is about $40 per day (with taxes and fees, etc.). And, many attractions do cost - seeing the water fall off the Niagara escarpment is free, but there are many ways in Niagara to part with your money! So, on the cheap, $1400 for hotel, $400 for food, maybe $3-400 for the rest? I should thing about 1500-2000 pounds should do it. It could be less, or more, depending on your tastes.

I would estimate about $150 / night, at least for hotels ($2100 for hotels), $30/day for food ($420 for food), and about $500 for transportation and attractions, for a total of approximately $3000 Canadian. That is roughly about 2000 British pounds. I don't think you're going to get anything decent for hotels for much less than $150. And I am calculating for three meals a day, plus snacks and drinks, which you usually get when you travel. Have fun on your trip to Canada... there is a lot to experience!

CapitalGentleman & PrairiePrincess are far closer to the mark than Emily, I'm afraid. For starters the exchange rate is nowhere near 1.00GBP to 2.00CAD any more! Around 1.00GBP to 1.55-1.60(ish)CAD is more realistic. And while eating out here is cheaper than the UK in general (I moved from the UK in 2005 and return regularly, so can compare) there is not as significant a difference in the "tourist trap" locations, and what difference there was is now largely negated by the unfavourable exchange rate. I'd advise you to budget what you'd expect to spend in the UK doing the same sort of things...i.e. similar cost for theme park visits, restaurant meals, theater trips, nightclubs, etc., and of course the number of nights hotel stays, and then just multiply by 1.6... I've just done some rough calculations and I reckon my holiday budget for that time would be very close to 2000GBP, but that is assuming a nightly rate of $100 (approx what we charge for our rather "rustic" B&B in a similarly costly area - if you can get hostel accommodation, you could reduce that considerably.) My budget would also include rather more that Emily's suggested equivalent of 65GBP on booze for a 2 week trip (at bar prices - think central London equiv. prices, if not more!) but maybe that's just me, LOL!
I dont know £, but youll need at least 1,000 dollars American!

The British pound is roughly worth about twice the amount of the Canadian dollar. I think if you'll be eating out a lot you'll probably be spending about $35-40 CAD/day-5 for breakfast, 10 for lunch and 15-20 for dinner?-. It also depends if you hit the bars, and since you're going to the Caribana, I'm sure you'll want to. Obviously that will put a hole in your pocket. So that's about $500 and an extra 100 or so for booze (a pint is about $5-6). If you stay in a hotel will probably be about $100/night. You might have to do that if you aren't in a big city. Since you'll be in Toronto for a bit, go for a hostel, which generally start at about $20-30. It depends if you'll be staying overnight in Toronto the entire time. Niagara Falls is about an hour and a half to two hours away, so to have a good experience there you might want to stay in a hotel/motel. Motels will be around $60. So let's assume you'll be staying in a hostel most nights except for two or three. That's about another $500 (I round up). And if you want to hit the theme park in Niagara Falls, it is pricey! I was there last year and one of the haunted houses cost $30!! I've heard it's worth it though. So hitting up the theme park and other attractions in Toronto/southern Ontario will probably cost around another $200 or so. It depends how much you want to do. And lastly, you mustn't forget the how to get around everywhere problem. If you've see a map of Canada, you've probably realized that it takes a lot longer to get to 'close' and 'near-by' cities than it does in the UK. And if not, well now you know. Good thing is though, that if you're just staying in southern Ontario, it's concentrated enough that you shouldn't have many issues. You will need to buy Greyhound or Go bus tickets. I'd suggest taking a train at least once if you can even though they are pricey, since you'll get to see some of the rugged scenery of Ontario. Anyway, Greyhound tickets for about an hour ride will on average be about $20 for a two-way ride. You'll want to go a few different places right? So how about we say $80-100. And if you can think of any more things you'll want to do, hopefully you have a good idea of the price it is to live here. :) So here it is: -$500 for food -$100 for booze -$500 for lodging (mostly hostels remember) -$200 for sight seeing/theme park -$100 for Greyhound bus Grand total: $1500 CAD = 750 pounds These are just the basics, so I'd suggest you bring extra. But I'm sure you'll tweak out everything eventually. I hope you have a great trip! And I feel like I've be harbouring a strong liking for accounting my whole life and only just realized it! I spent way too much time calculating for this. LOL
