What is the drinking age in Canada?

What is the drinking age on VIA Rail (Canada)? Or is it just the drinking age of the province the train is in?

  • Answer:

According to their website, "the consumption of alcoholic drinks on trains is governed by the laws of the province in which the train is travelling." I've always wondered what happens if you're 18 you order a beer while in Quebec but haven't finished it when the train crosses in to Ontario. Do you have pour it out? Will they come take it away from you? Hm... Oh well, I'm 19 now so it doesn't matter to me anymore :)

Im pretty sure it depends on which province the train is in. I really think Canada should just create a single drinking age for all of Canada set it at 18 and that's it. What`s the point having some provinces 18 some 19. Eliminate the confusion.

It goes by the province you are in. So in Ontario you have to be 19 in Quebec 18 etc. You also have to provide proper id before being served.
