Is it possible to work for free during vacation in France?

Why Only 10 Vacation Days in Canada?

  • I graduated from Uni 2 years ago and have been working for a company since that time now. Most of us only get 10 vacation days a year. I'm sorry but thats just pathetic. Its the worst in the developed world, even the US gets more vacation days than us. Out of a survey I looked at, only the Phillipenes, and Thailand gets less vacation days than Canada. Who ever made up that law should be executed. Bring back the death penalty just to execute that miserly mofo. I work between 9-10 hours a day, 5 days a week and have almost no vacation time to look foward to. We are not a poor country, infact we're up their with the richest but still treat our employees like slaves. 1 United Arab Emirates 30 2 France 30 3 Finland 30 4 Lithuania 28 5 Estonia 28 6 Poland 26 7 Sweden 25 8 Luxembourg 25 9 Greece 25 10 Denmark 25 37 United States 15 47 CANADA 10 49 Philippines 5 All of Europe gets at least 4 weeks, in France and England they get 6 now. 6 WEEKS!!!! We should have a revolution and overthrow the govt, like they do in France. I know some people at my office that have been working 4-5 years and still only get 10 days. You can tell how stressed this makes me, and its only been 2 years. Imagine after 5 years? I cant. If they dont give me at least 3 weeks soon I'm going to explode.

Sucks to be you. I'd get another job then. I get 5 weeks of paid vacation a year plus at least 2 sick days a month, if needed, without a doctors note. I also get time off in lieu of overtime if I have to work late or work weekends. And my place isn't even unionized. Some have been worked 4-5 years and still only get 10 days? Yeah, so what? That much time working for a company doesn't entitle you to any additional time off no matter where you work from what I have ever seen. Build up some "time in" with your job and perhaps you will deserve more. Then again, if you don't like it, quit and try to get a job in Greece or UAE. By all means, don't let us stop you.

It must just be who you work for. Every job I've ever had gave me three weeks or more.

In Canada we get lots of other holidays, like Christmas, Boxing Day, canada day etc. On top of this we get a minimum of 2 weeks holiday. Some of us get much more. I was up to 6 weeks at my former employer. I have 3 weeks with my current employer. In the USA, last time I heard, there was no law forcing employers to give any holidays. Holidays are just part of pay. You can not take out more than you put in. So in France they get 6 weeks but accept a lower standard of living to do so.
