How are visible minorities treated in Grimsby, Ontario, Canada?

• I'm an Asian living in Ontario, Canada for 25 years. I completed my post secondary education here in Ontario and have been working in Toronto for a decade now. My job is somewhat flexible and I can work from home a few days a week. Since I was born and raised on a farm, outside Canada, I want to create somewhat of a similar country-living environment / experience for my kids so that as a family we’re able to spend our days off closer to nature and away from the rat-race and bad influences of the city/GTA. We’ve looked at a few hobby farms, in Grimsby Ontario, and like what we see. However, our key concerns are around the assimilation and integration (us having yellow skin, black hair and eyes vs. the mainly Caucasian population of Grimsby area): So the questions are: 1. Are folks in the smaller towns more, or less, tolerant towards visible minorities? 2. How will the mainly Caucasians folks in Grimsby will accept us (the non-whites and non-Christian)? 3. Will my kids be accepted and treated equally in the school system? Any comment / input / story is greatly appreciated.

  You will get on just fine in Grimsby. No one cares about your religious (or lack of) affiliation, and your children shouldn't have any issues in the school or community. Grimsby is a beautiful area....but somewhat limited for your children in terms of things to do. Have you looked into the Milton area? Same sort of feel to it, only closer to city things.....but if you like Grimsby, then I definitely recommend it. You will encounter an ignoramus or two no matter where you go, but on the whole, you will be accepted into the community as anyone else.
