Does a US citizen need a passport to visit Canada?
-
I am a naturalized US citizen and want to visit a friend in Canada for a week. Do I need a visa and US passport? Thanks for advice.

Answer:
A visa and passport are not needed to travel to Canada. Since you were not born in the US you will need to bring your naturalization certificate with you to prove that you are American now. Also some form of photo ID (drivers license is fine) As an American who has crossed many many times (between Michigan and Ontario) I must say it is much easier to cross into Canada then coming home. The American side is much more serious about your documents. I only need to show my drivers license most the time going into Ontario.

At the moment, you do not need one - but do carry your birth certificate and drivers license (or DMV ID card). However, there are proposal to change this - so in the future, yes we might need to have a passport to cross over into Canada. From...http://www.gonorthwest.com/Visitor/planning/border/border.htm USA Citizens Traveling to Canada Citizens of the United States do not need a passport or visa to enter Canada, unless they are arriving in Canada from somewhere other than the USA. They do need to have on them proof of citizenship plus photo identification, although this is not often asked for. More information for U.S. citizens crossing into Canada can be found on the Consular Information Sheet for Canada at the web site of the Bureau of Consular Affairs, of the U.S. Department of State.

Just a passport, which is required for a naturalized citizen I believe. A visa is not necessary unless you are staying for like a month I think. Have a great trip, I am jealous! *REALLY needs a vacation!* :)

You definitely do not need a visa to visit Canada... that is only if you wanted to work here. A passport isn't needed yet either. Definitely must have photo identification.

you definitely need a passport, since Canada and US are close.
