Why are the days for American thanksgiving and Canadian thanksgiving different?

Canadians Do you celebrate American Thanksgiving well?

  • I know Canada has its own Thanksgiving Day in October but do you celebrate American Thanksgiving as well Also, what is Canadian thanksgiving is it the same as the American version

  • Answer:

The only thing that I do for your Thanksgiving is watch NFL football or the NYC Macy's parade on TV. Our Thanksgiving is pretty much the same but it has nothing to do with Christmas.

No, we don't celebrate Thanksgiving twice. Canadian and American Thanksgivings may seem the same thing because the traditional meals are pretty much identical, but they're celebrated for very different historical reasons: Canadian Thanksgiving - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_%28Canada%29 American Thanksgiving - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thanksgiving_%28United_States%29

No, we don't celebrate American thanksgiving, although I understand there are lots of football games and a lot of Canadian guys are glued to the TV for the weekend. At Canadian Thanksgiving, we kill a beaver and roast it with carrots and turnips. Then for dessert we have seal flipper pie...... Truthfully, its a big family gettogether. Most people cook a turkey with potatoes and vegetables and salads and more food that you could possibly eat. Then there's pumpkin pies and other desserts and everyone eats til they are stuffed then lays down in front of the TV and goes to sleep. So I think just like American Thanksgiving except about a month earlier

No. We celebrate our own in October. It's much lower key than the American version.

NO we do our "turkey Day " in October, as the farther north you go, the shorter the growing season, so our farmers have finished their crop harvest by that time. It is somewhat the same, but we look back a lot farther than the Plymouth colony, as our first European adventurers were from France, and they got here in 1534, with Jacques Cartier as the exploration leader. If it were not for the "First Nations People " they would have starved to death, as they didn't bring enough supplies to make it to spring time. The FNP also taught them the value of furs, for warmth, and the use of berries and dried meat to get through the winter. The other aspect that is different is the lack of the religious emphasis during the holidays here, as our fore fathers were not religious escapees, as the Puritans were. They were looking for a route to China, not a religious refuge. They were Roman Catholics, every one of them. Food and good times, with family, and a look back at the summer and ahead to the winter, that will come inevitably. Jim B Toronto.
