Do I need a visa to Canada?

Me and my sister are on F1 visa and my mom is on B1/B2 visa. What do we need to do to visit Canada?

  • I'm an undergraduate student in US on F1 visa. My sister is taking summer English courses in Kaplan and she also has F1 visa. My mom is on B1/B2 visa. We wanted to visit Canada for 3-4 days. What do we have to do to go to Canada (we're planning to drive there)? What about when we come back? Is it going to be a problem? What documents will we need? (We all have valid visas, they're not expired) Can I drive in Canada with a valid US driver's license?

  • Answer:

Normally, you need a green card or American citizenship to go freely into Canada from the States. Depending on your country of origin, you may need to obtain a visa to enter Canada. You can email Citizenship and Immigration and they'll tell you if your visa would constitute "proof of permanent residency." Your driver's license will be fine for driving in Canada, but if you intend to rent a car in Canada, call the company and check beforehand.
