Can anybody tell me about Victoria BC (in Canada)?
-
in a year my parents are moving to Victoria, BC (i will be entering university then) I am probably going to go to University of Victoria i was wondering if somebody could tell me about Victoria. What are the fun things to do there when you're 18? Are there lots of malls? many clubs? bars? exciting things? are there many teenagers or more old people? Does everyone spend a lot of time at the beach? What does the average person there do for fun? And what's the temperature like? Does it change a lot throughout the year? I'm SO worried! Oh and is there a lot of nature (lakes, rivers, mountains, forests?) or is it more like buildings and polution? Do you suggest living there? Hopefully somebody will be able to tell me about Victoria, thanks so much!♥

Answer:
You will love Victoria. Forget the people that said bad things. None of that is even remotely true. I won't rehash what so many others have told you -- ro copy links to the Internet. I won't copy and paste stuff. I will give you my first-hand report from being there myself. I was in Victoria this time last year. My wife and I stayed at the Empress Hotel. There are clubs and restaurants within an easy walk of that hotel. It is like England but a city feel to it as well. There isn't any polution. And if you want to leave the feel of the city, you can go fifteen minues and be out of it. The temperature is very moderate. Lots of sunshine. It rarely gets cold or snows. The weather is more like San Diego. There are not big swings in the weather -- it is very mild. That's one of the things you will like best about being there. There is the ocean and beautiful views, whale-watching excursions. Whitewater rafting, riding ATVs in the mountains. People are attracted to the beauty of the land. There is a tour of the island and there are many famous movie people and sports stars who have purchased property on Victoria and choose to live there at least part of the time. It is that attractive. The ferry ride over -- either from Vancouver or Seattle -- is very relaxing and beautiful. It takes about two hours -- but the time passes so quickly with breathtaking views of nice homes among the islands that dot the trip. Nice sunshine to enjoy or they have folks come and play music on these ferries as well for your enjoyment. Great food, a lively music scene, lots to do during the day and night. There are people of all ages there -- young and old. There is history to explore or just enjoy the nature and beauty of the island itself. The only downside I would see of living there is that it is quite expensive. That in itself should tell you something -- people are willing to pay a premium to live there. It is that nice. I'm envious. You are in for a real treat.

Boy, are you lucky! I wish we could change places! Victoria, BC is one of the most beautiful places on earth, and Victoria U is terrific! The weather is usually quite good, year 'round, but sometimes it rains a lot. The Museum is one of the best in North America. The Harbor is full of activity. There are a lot of unique and special shops. The scenery is magnificent!!! You can take ferries to the various islands and Vancouver, on the mainland. You must go to Butchart Gardens, one of the most beautiful gardens in the world.

Victoria is on Vancouver Island, about an hour and twenty minutes by ferry from the mainland. You often see pods of whales near Active Pass during the crossing. There are malls, clubs, bars and other exciting things to do, but it's also a very sedate place. Victoria has been described as a 'little bit of Olde England' and it's a very apt description. They serve afternoon tea at the Empress Hotel. There are excellent beaches, but not right around the Victoria area. Qualicum beach and Tofino are superlative, but they're up island. That's not a terribly long distance. The temperature is the most moderate in Canada, due to the influence of the Pacific Ocean, and the temperature ranges from about 35 in the winter to 75 in the summer. It rarely snows in Victoria! Vancouver Island, and all of British Columbia, is very beautiful, with lots of lakes, rivers, mountains, and forests. One of the fun things to do in Victoria is join a padding team. They are very big on dragon boat paddling and outrigger canoe paddling and there are races pretty well every weekend somewhere on the island. There's great surfing on the Island too, but you usually wear a wet suit -- just a shorty -- when you're out in some absolutely awesome surf. UVic is a good school, with a beautiful campus, and it's very close to the downtown area. You're going to enjoy it.
