If you are in France, use French stamps. No matter which country you may be in, you need to use stamps from that country. You may wish to read up on the Universal Postal Union. http://www.upu.int/ I frequently send mail to other countries. Since I am in the country to your south, I use US stamps. When I get mail from other countries, the stamps are always from whatever country the mail comes from.

If you are sending the letter from France, you MUST use french stamps. If you send it from Canada, you MUST use Canadian stamps. In every country in the world, it is where the letter originates that determines what kind of stamps you use. If you put Canadian stamps on a letter and mail it from France to Canada, it will be delivered postage due, which means the recipient has to pay the postman twice what the postage would have been. They treat it as though it has no stamps on it at all, unless the stamps come from the country of origin.

Come on why is there stamps. The country where the mail is posted requires their stamps to be used. How else would they cover their costs.
