How does immigration affect canada environmentally?

  Increases in population will cause our largest cities, where new immigrants tend to cluster, to grow. Because Canadian cities tend to grow out instead of up (building huge new houses, expanding the suburbs, instead of building more condos or apt building) too much forest and/or farm land is destroyed. The area outside Toronto is farm land and there are building projects where developers are building these ENORMOUS houses...thousands of them. Yes having more people increases the demand for fresh water, but we sell our water anyways. Bad parts aside, I would never argue to stop skilled and good people from immigrating. Accepting immigrants and allowing everyone to live like they want to is a huge part of what it means to be Canadian. We don't have to clear cut forests and we can use our water more efficiently, stopping immigration is not the answer.
