What do I have to do to become a Physiotherapist in Canada?

Is this why Canada didn't become an autonomous nation sooner?

  • Did Canada remain under British rule for so long because it didn't have a sizable enough population nor a sizable enough military to stand on its own as an autonomous, independent nation? Using terms analogous to a family, with Britain being considered the parent, would Canada be one of the less gifted, more clingy of the parent's children -- a child who needed more of the parent's nurturing and assistance for a longer amount of time before it could be on its own...whereas, America would be like the gifted child who struck out very independently at a young age and made it on its own without needing extra parental nurturing? I am fascinated with why a country as geographically large as Canada did not seek to pursue its independence as early as other North and South American countries did from their colonial "parents". It's made all the more fascinating by the fact that Canada still clings to its parent in terms of the Queen reigning in Canada. Any insight Canadians can provide me will be greatly appreciated.

  • Answer:

The USA was more the rebellious child, fleeing the rules of the parents. The USA was formed in large part by those seeking freedoms, mostly religious. England remained essentially catholic - the Church of England remained catholic in style, and England firmly resisted Protestant reforms. So, the people went to America - both Roman Catholics, and hard core Protestants too. That was not the case for Canada. Canada does not cling to Britain. As I have said many times, there are no longer any legal ties, and there have not been any effective ones since 1931. We share the Queen, but, legally she is just as much Canadian as she is British. Granted, she does live there most of the time. Some do see this as a tie, but, in fact, we have no ties whatsoever to the British monarchy - only to the Canadian one. Which just happens (by an accident of history) to be the same person. But, had the UK not changed the primogeniture laws, even that may not have continued, had William and Catherine a daughter before a son.

Seriously, do you really need to get the Canadians all riled up by calling the Americans the more gifted child? I can't even watch what is going to happen next :-). Troll in disguise.

JamieB/Eric/Maurice, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. I'm not supposed to, Ottawa will surely take away my maple syrup privileges for this. But you need to understand that everything that annoys you about Canada is deliberate. It's all a huge conspiracy just to p*ss you off, personally. Not anyone else. Just you. Because deep down inside, we're as cold, merciless and cruel as our winters. But only to those deserving of our ire.

Yes Canada needed a protector right up to 1867. Canada lost allot of territory to the USA even with a protector.Canada lost Washington State, Oregon, Idaho, a bit of what is now Alaska, Montana, North Dakota and Minnesota. Just look what happened to Mexico. The USA ripped off California, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas from Mexico. They needed protection badly.

Gosh JAMIEB we have tried so hard to explain .It is so difficult dealing with the mentally challenged. If we answer your questions as Shawn said we could be punished terribly. If it is a major offence we could be banned from getting beaver tail on the canal and our poutine ration may be cut. I see you have been scared off the Australian page. The Australians did not say nice things to you.

JamieB, maybe there is hope for you. At least you admit Canada is an autonomous nation. You usually depict us as mindless lackeys of the monarchy. Maybe one day you will get over the fact that Elizabeth II is Queen of Canada---and you are not.
