Animals in Banff,Alberta Canada?

What are some domesticated animals that live all over Canada?

  • I'll be moving to Canada & I have found out that rabbits live everywhere in Canada, do they cause any harm, do they bite? Is it illegal to keep any of them at home if I decide to chase one and keep it? Are they like pests? Cuz I sure don't want to die from rabies or any health problems because of them. And what are other animals in Canada that live everywhere just like rabbits?

  • Answer:

Rabbits are completely harmless except perhaps to your garden where they sometimes eat some of the plants and they can be a pest in some areas because of that. They will run away, fast, if you get near them, so you'll never get a chance to keep one at home unless you buy one at a pet store. I wouldn't worry about rabies. It's very rare for people to get it, and you can only get it if an animal that has it bites you. But you asked about domesticated animals. That usually means cats, dogs, all the stuff people everywhere keep as pets. Or it could mean livestock--farm animals such as cows, horses, goats and so on. Wild animals that live just about everywhere in most parts of Canada include raccoons, skunks, coyotes, squirrels, deer, rats and mice, in some places there are bears, cougars, wolves, lynxes. They rarely pose any threat to people and would prefer to avoid us if possible most of the time.

Good luck every trying to catch a wild rabbit! Those guys more FAST! Some people keep pet rabbits, and some farm them (for meat). You can buy rabbits at just about any pet store. They are no threat in the wild at all. I don't think they are even much of a pest - foxes, coyotes, and wolves keep the populations pretty much in check, not to mention domestic dogs. Rabbits do not exactly live everywhere. For example, the arctic hare found on Ellesmere Island (in the far north) will be a different beastie than what you would find in southern Ontario. Likewise, Canada being such a huge country, there really aren't many animals that are found in the entire country. In fact, I cannot think of a single example.

Rabbits don't bite and it isn't illegal to keep them. They aren't pests and they don't cause problems, except to eat gardens. Domesticated animals are animals that have been tamed - dogs, cats, horses, cows etc. are all domesticated animals and there are lots of them in Canada. Most of the rabbits in Canada are not domesticated, but are wild rabbits.

sometimes rabbits will bite you but it doesnt hurt at all. lots of trained rabbits wont bite cause they like you. rabbits can be trained to use a litter box just like a cat! and trained to be walked on a leash. its much easier to train a rabbit if you get it as a baby. pet stores are always overrunn with rabbits around where i live. whenever i go in there they always try to GIVE me a bunny!! other animals would be chipmunks and squirrels, racoons, otters, possums, obviously deers and bears, goats, cougars, wolves. tons of different animals.

I smell a troll, but just in case you're seriously asking a stupid question, as long as you don't approach any wild animal you're have to worry about getting bitten. And I trust that they have rabies shots where you're from, so last time I checked your good for four years between vaccinations, so you don't have to worry about catching rabies from an animal bite.
