Is Quebec still part of Canada?

Isn't Quebec part of Canada?

  • this is actually making me a little angry.. When you answer a question and you have to submit it look at the bottom of your screen wehere it says 'Answers International' Why is Quebec in there along with Canada? Canada is the country in which the province of Quebec is located..

  • Answer:

If you look at the bottom on the page, each of the countries listed is an English speaking country. Quebec isn't an English speaking province. That's the whole reason. Quebec doesn't want to be part of France, they want to be a separate nation inside Canada, but if they break away, they lose all the grants and funding that Ottawa supplies, so while they make a lot of noise about it, it's never going to happen. Quebec, by the way, gets 1/3 of all federal funding and they certainly don't have 1/3 of the population of Canada. What really ticks me off is that the Bloc Quebecois is rated as a federal party (and was, if you remember, the official opposition) but they don't have a single seat outside of Quebec, nor have they ever run a candidate outside of Quebec. They're a provincial party, pure and simple, and giving them federal status is just Ottawa pandering to the francophones - but what else is new?

Yes, Quebec is a major part of Canada. The reason they have their own section, is due to the majority of Quebecois are Francophone, and can ask questions easily there in their Native tongue. *The majority of Quebecois do not wish to separate. They had a vote on it several years back, and the vote was no. Its mainly the politicians who want it. **You need to find more important issues to be angry about!

Ya Quebec is Canada's largest province.

Well.. The last time there was a vote over half of them decided to stay... so yeah they are Canadian. I wouldn't really mind if they did go, however.. maybe then Alberta's equalization payments won't go directly to a province that hates us. Maybe then, we could actually save money and not hear them b*tch incessantly about being part of a country that provides them with a large chunk of their infrastructure, tax dollars, and social programs.

It's separate because it's in French --It would too expensive for Yahoo to make all Canadian pages bilingual

pappy12a

it's because they speak a different language. its sort of hard for people to be included with people they can't communicate with

Tyler

because they speak french

Right now on CBC, they are discussing a major world wide financial crisis. HIV/AIDS, Hep A, Hep B, Hep C are all at epidemic levels. Drug use is also at epidemic heights as are the crimes involved in supporting a drug habit. There is a kid missing for over a week in Ontario and another in Manitoba and a host of other really important things and your biggest complaint is that Quebec has it's own French language page at Yahoo Answers?? Unbelievable! Edit: Itssoeasy is So Right - where ever did anyone get the notion that Quebec wanted to join France? This is sounding very much like an English separatist rant and a means of seeding the forum with misinformation. Again - Unbelievable!

"Yahoo! does not evaluate or guarantee the accuracy of any Yahoo! Answers content" End of story. Yeah.. there's always a fineprint.

Because they speak a different language but most importantly because the laws and the culture are very different in Quebec. The Canadian legal system has its foundation in the British common law system, inherited from being a part of the Commonwealth. Quebec, however, still retains a civil system for issues of private law.
