How long does it take to get a work permit?

How long does it take to get thru Voluntary Compliance Area at Vancouver Airport to be issued work visa permit?

  • I have been issued a Letter of Introduction for my WHP visa for Canada. It says for me to take go to the Voluntary Compliance Area at Vancouver Airport so that I may be granted my work permit. I'm going 2 weeks before the Olympics. Would 2 to 2.5 hours be enough time for me to get through this supposedly "Express Service" and collect my baggage? I have a total of 3.5 hours before my next flight leaves and I want to allow 1 hour to recheck my bags and make my way to the gate. Anyone gone through Vancouver Airport on a work visa? How long has it taken approximately?

    Hard to predict. It depends largely on the immigration officer you encounter, what the traffic is like, etc. etc. 3.5 hours doesn't sound like a very generous amount of time - especially just prior to the Olympics because the airport is apt to be very, very busy.

Hi There I hope this helps. I work in the movie industry and I pick up the stars at the airport. If they need a work permit then I allow an extra hour for them to get it. For instance. If their flight arrives at 4pm. they would usually be out the door at 430 or so. However, if they need their work permit then I would expect them between 5 and 530. So, I think that you would have lots of time. good luck r
