Moving to the US from Canada.

Moving from Canada to US?

  • I have a friend who is on a work visa in the US (whose Visa expires in 2011). He wants to marry a girl who lives and works in Canada(but is not a citizen of canada). Is it possible for the girl to move to US and for them to be able to live in US for a long time?

  • Answer:

That depends on where the girl is originally from. If she is an American citizen, than yes, they can get married (in the USA) and live there for a long time. He would then have to apply for a green card, which might take some time to process- usually 6-8 months. If she is not an American citizen however, they could get married in one of their home countries and then would have to apply for a work visa for the both of them in the USA or apply for a green card as a couple. This can sometimes be tricky to do. Good luck!

Other answers

Yes it is possible, but the girl will not be able to work in US. I'm guessing the guy holds an H1 visa. If they get married, the girl will hold an H4 visa, which allows the girl to live in US, but not work.
