  • Answer:

    - Minimum wage is $8, same for everyone (the lowest in Canada) - monthly pass: http://www.translink.ca/en/Fares-and-Passes/Monthly-Pass.aspx - the cheapest grade of gas is $1.17 - HST (harmonized sales tax) is 12% Don't know about the other stuff.

I'm not going to give you all the details because I'd be typing for half an hour. Don't know what the unemployment rate is, it's usually around 8% or so. You can find out about BC's minimum wage laws by googling "BC minimum wage' and reading the Ministry of labour website. It's the same for everyone, legal, or non legal except if you're not legal to work in Canada then you may end up working for cash and may end up with no legal wage or other job protection. Gas costs a little over $1 a litre. Car insurance will be at least $1100 a year, but probably more. Depends what you use the car for and where you live. Bus passes can be checked out at Translink.ca Daycare varies a lot. Cable/internet varies a lot but if you pay less than $80 a month I'd say you're getting a good deal. Check out Shaw Cable/Internet and Telus Health care premiums are decided by BC Medical Plan, so google that and see what it says. There's premium assistance if you are low income. Fishing licence, I have no idea but it's not much. Depends what kind of fishing. I'd say anyone with one child who brings home less than $3,000 a month in Vancouver will find themselves having to be careful with their money. Accommodation could easily cost you $1200 or so per month

Our website will answer a lot of these questions or refer you directly to the right sources for further information. www.BritsInBC.com is designed for people relocation to BC from the UK so we have tried to make a pretty comprehensive guide if you click through our various pages on jobs, benefits, childcare and so on. Hope that helps.
