Would you rather live in Penticton BC or Armstrong BC?

Where would you rather live: Richmond, BC or Calabasas, CA?

  • I know they're not in the same country but from what I know British Columbia and California are both on the west side and pretty close. Calabasas is an affluent city in Los Angeles County. It is located in the southwestern San Fernando Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains. It is a very wealthy area in the greater Los Angeles area, A lot of celebrities and people in the film business live there, also lawyers and other high paying job residents. Many gated communities and mc Mansions and mansions. Clean and beautiful area, very little crime. Average salary for jobs in Calabasas, California is $66,726, and the median income of households in Calabasas was $93,860. Population of 22,095 people. Richmond is a coastal city, incorporated in the Canadian province of British Columbia. Part of Metro Vancouver, its neighbouring communities are Vancouver and Burnaby to the north, New Westminster to the east, and Delta to the south, while the Strait of Georgia forms its western border. Richmond is the location of Vancouver International Airport, and the Richmond Olympic Oval was a site for speed-skating events during the 2010 Winter Olympics. I don't know much about this area but from What I hear it is one of the nicest and expensive areas in British Columbia. Population of 165,000 people. I don't know the average salary but 65-75 K is a livable salary for people that live there. Where would you rather live and why?

  • Answer:

Richmond, also known as Ditchmond, is NOT the best representation of B.C. living. While it's not horrid of course - it's far from scenic. Why not a choice of Vancouver or Victoria? B.C. is stunning. Richmond is not.

I'd rather live in Richmond. It doesn't have the LA smog problem, and it does have Canada's health care coverage, if you are a resident. Richmond isn't one of the most expensive areas in British Columbia - there are easily a dozen communities that are far more upscale and expensive. But it is nice.

I'll take Richmond, thanks. I wouldn't care for the continual warm weather of California, or the smog of LA, or the crowdedness, and wealthy gated communities are not for me. On the other hand, if I wanted to live around Vancouver, Richmond wouldn't be my first choice. Too flat, too suburban.

I just moved back to the Vancouver area from the LA area last month. Mainly because I am too old at 59 to get my green card in time. However, if I was 10 years younger and would get my green card in time, I would have stayed in the LA area Calabasas is a nice place. I had dinner last night in Richmond and I barely knew the place It is a nice area but has become another country in so many ways.Though the Chinese food was great. If yu have to live in Canada, live can be good in Richmond. But if you can live legally in the USA and make enough to have medical insurance there, the Los Angeles area can be pretty sweet too. And the LA area has great weather.

Well I'd much rather live in Calabasas, CA. I've live 20 mins from Richmond and honestly, it's not as good a place as you make it seem. It is a predominantly Asian area; the city centre is filled with great chinese restaurants wherever you go and there's a bunch of cool asian orientated malls. Other than that, it's just flat suburbs, this area was built and developed in the 80's mostly, so it's kinda new, i guess. Richmond's weather sucks btw. it's been soggy for the last couple of days, when it rains here, it's not like a quick period of heavy rain then sun, like down in CA, but it's more like 4 days of soggy drizzle and murky skies.Winter averages around 45 degrees fahrenhiet and it gets to around 70 in the summer, it might creep up to 80 for a week but don't bet on it. Final thing, getting around Metro Van sucks. Granted that u won't take transit regularly, cuz it's just that much better to be in your car, we have almost NO decent freeways even though metro vancouver's population's 2.3 million. During rush hours, it's IMPOSSIBLE to get anywhere. You might not think that's a big deal, but trust me, if you move here, you will. If I were you and I wanted to live in Vancouver somewhere, i'd pick Vancouver! but housing in vancouver costs tons. A minimally decent house might cost upwards of 700,000 to 800,000 dollars and if you want something that's 'kinda' good, it'll probably be a million or more. If u want something cheaper but still nice, choose Coquitlam or something like that, it's a suburb about 30 mins from the city.
