Where can we see the Songkrann?

Where can I see between Vancouver and some areas of Alaska in very early May?

  • I am finishing a tour in Vancouver on 01 May 2011. After the tour I would like to do something up towards Alaska where I can see Glaciers, amazing scenery etc. All sites I have looked at including bcferries only seem to list as starting operating on or close to 15 May and I need something before then. The tour I am doing takes in Victoria, Whistler, Sun Peaks, Jasper, Lake Louise, Banff, Kamloops and Vancouver and finishes on 01 May. I have until 07 May to do something out of Vancouver and back to Vancouver where my flight leaves from (I need to be back in Vancouver in the morning of 07 May at the latest). Can someone suggest something where I will get to see glaciers and more beautiful scenery that will operate that early in to the tourist season? If a flight is required to get to somewhere nice that has the sorts of things I want, what would be the best place to fly in to to be able to see Glaciers (flight cost not likely to be more than about $350 each way)? I really did want to see the Inside Passage area of Alaska, but with only 6 days and the cruises starting late, it doesn't seem like I can do it. Does a township exist in that area of Alaska where you can overlooks glacier etc and do little day tours out of to see more amazing scenery when you don't have a car to drive yourself? Even the ferry service which sounds good does not appear to start until 15 May. Any suggestions would be good. Also if anyone reading this lives in Vancouver or knows it pretty well, is it possible to get multi-day tours that go from there to somewhere like Yosemite National Park in the US and then return a few days later? It would have to be on tour as I can not legally drive myself.

Hi Joeblow, I came across this cruise which travels from Vancouver to the wonderful glaciers of Alaska - it looks like it could be just what youre looking for. http://www.alaskacruisefromvancouver.com/alaska_cruise_Celebrity_Century.cfm There are plenty of these types of cruises available on this site so be sure to have a look through even if this one may not suit. Have a great trip! Regards, Kate

You might be able to charter a small plane for a quick flip up to see glaciers. If you have a few friends to share the costs it might be affordable. There are a lot of air charter services available in and around Vancouver. Here's one, but there are lots more. http://www.flyorcaair.com/flight-charters.php
