Coming to Vancouver?

  • I'll be in Vancouver, BC in November for a ten days vacation. I plan to go to Vancouver Island and then to Vancouver city and Whistler. Will you give me some suggestions for my trip? How are the prices? How much it costs to eat -- no big places ? THANKS!!

  • Answer:

Be prepared for dampness! November is not very cold (depending on where you're coming from), especially when compared to the rest of the country. After travelling the world and across Canada, I really don't find the prices that bad in BC. But, depending on where you're coming from, it could feel expensive to you (or very inexpensive). Movie tickets cost between $8 and $12; fast food is about $6; sushi can be about $4 (if you like Asian food, you're in for some great, inexpensive restaurants); if you buy food in a grocery store then dairy is inexpensive but produce is a bit more. Make sure you take the ferry between Vancouver (Tsawwassen) and Victoria (Swartz Bay) - don't fly! www.bcferries.bc.ca The trip is about 1 hour 35 minutes and it's absolutely gorgeous. Or, there's another ferry that goes to Nanaimo if you're not going to Victoria. I do suggest visiting Victoria, though! There are some fun things to do there like whale watching, the Royal BC Museum (www.royalbcmuseum.bc.ca - it's amazing and definitely worth visiting), IMAX (at the museum), Madam Toussaud's Wax Museum, the Legislative Buildings, etc. The downtown "Old Victoria" area (same place where all these suggestions are located) can have some great shopping. Also, Butchart Gardens (www.butchartgardens.com) is beautiful, though I'm not too sure what the situation is like in November... Nextdoor is Butterfly Gardens, if you like butterflies. A trip up-island to Nanaimo (there's a ferry back to Vancouver from there) and Parksville is definitely worthwhile.
