What university should I go to?

What university should I go to in British Columbia, Canada?

  • these are the choices: Vancouver Island University Thompson Rivers University Simon Fraser University in Surrey University of the Fraser Valley University of Victoria (I want to go into an art major) And I love mountains

  • Answer:

I would recommend University of Victoria on Vancouver Island because the University provides co-op programs for most of the courses. It would help you to find a job quicker after graduation. Thre are many mountains on the Island as well as in BC You could go to Strathcona Provincial Park right in the hart of Vancouver Island. Hiking, mountain biking, fly fishing, kayaking, canoeing...many things. http://www.strathcona.bc.ca/ If you like skiing you could go to Mount Washington in winter which is on the Island too. http://www.mountwashington.ca/ http://www.mountwashingtonbc.com/ Good luck with your decision.

Vancouver Island is beautiful, but you are trapped over there and at the mercy of BC Ferries with their expensive fees. If you go to the Island and stay there, that's ok. If you want to go to school on the mainland, rent is expensive the closer into Vancouver you go. Simon Fraser University in Surrey is a brand new campus (Russell obviously does not know this) which will allow you to live in a more affordable area and don't have to go over any bridges. A large bus loop and skytrain stop at this University. It's part of a large mall called: Surrey Place on the King George Highway. If money is not a problem for you, I would suggest: UBC (University of British Columbia). This university is highly recognized all over the world.

If you're used to living in the city, then U Vic, or SFU are good choices. Thompson Rivers U is in Kamloops, about 180 miles north of Vancouver - it's a small city of about 85000. TRU is a good school, with undergrad fine arts degrees offered in a lot of fields. They also have graduate studies in selected arts programs. If you're looking for something more specific, like graphic arts or performing arts, look at the smaller schools like Emily Carr in Vancouver.

I've heard great reviews for UVIC on Vancouver Island. You'll find Simon Fraser on Burnaby Mountain in Burnaby, not Surrey, and it has a good reputation as well. Another location of UBC (University of BC) is the Okanagan Valley campus in Kelowna - http://web.ubc.ca/okanagan/welcome.html Best of luck with your decision! Edit to Add... Thanks Amazon - wasn't aware of that. Learn something new every day! :)

Another choice is Kwantlen Polytechnic University which is in Surrey, Langley & Richmond. To Russell V, Simon Fraser is in Burnaby and Surrey.

If you love mountains, then you should go to SFU as it is surrounded with mountains. You should contact each university and ask them what art programs they offer and if they are good programs.
