What is the cheapest way to call Canada?

Cheapest way to call Canada?

  • I'm looking for a way to keep in touch with my son attending University of Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. I'm in New Orleans, La. I've read that calling cards rip many people off, never getting the minutes you paid for and cutting you off mid-conversation. This did happen to us twice, but maybe they're still the cheapest way to go? I've also heard of Skype but not sure how it works. What do I need to buy, and where do you buy it? Also, if anyone has info to share on the cheapest way to send packages from here to there, I'd appreciate it. The USPS site is a bit confusing and expensive! Thanks! Nola- recover, rebuild, rebirth.

  • Answer:

Cheapest way to call is Voice Over Internet Protocol, one of these is Skype, there is also Google Talk and Yahoo Messenger. Both you and your son would have to download the programs onto your respective computers and you could text or call each other - FREE - provided you have a microphone and speaker or a special phone that accepts land-line and VOIP calls. We use this to stay in touch with our son. As for packages - do NOT use UPS from the US. The brokerage is very expensive ~ $50.00 per package ~ USPS is a much better route to take. You might also contact the University website and see if there is any information there for US students. Or he could just ask and see what others are doing.

yahoo messenger. can't get cheaper than free. For shipping, I would use Fed-ex or UPS.
