Can I buy Canadian beer at toronto airport?

  • I want to buy beer after going through customs/security at Pearson airport in Toronto, (so the duty free shops) and bring the beer to the Dominican Republic. Can I buy the beer there? or should I pack it in my check in luggage?

    Hey Ashley B: I don't think it's sold at the duty free... only the "liquor store" or THE Beer Store. Consider these questions: Is it really worth having Canadian beer in the Dominican at the risk of putting your luggage over the allowed weight, which you would have to pay for? If you put it in your checked luggage, have you considered there is the chance the cans will pop open and soak everything in your suitcase? (If you go with this plan...wrap the beer in plastic bags just in case.) I'm not trying to sound negative - just practical.

If I'm not mistaken, the only places where you can buy liquor in Canada are: the Beer Store and LCBO. This, of course, excludes private vendors who are only allowed to sell a limited amount of liquor. I recommend just buying it ahead and packing it in your checked luggage, just for the sake of avoiding the trickies that come with liquids and carry-ons in airports nowadays.

I don't recall seeing any beer in duty free shops. Better to buy it before and pack it. You'll get more choices, too.
