  • Answer:

I love Toronto and I just moved here a yr ago from the US. I have a great job and the city is very nice -modern and sophisticated compare to a lot of American cities. I think you and your husband will love the change. Recession or no recession, it can be easy or hard to get a job depending on your field and openings. I don't know anything about HR. But compare to the US, the recession was not as bad. But that's just my opinion.

Like other people have said the economy here is pretty good. Canada has declared our recession over. To be truely realistic, if you want to buy a house in a decent area...be prepared to spend at least $400,000.00 to over $10 million. To rent an apartment, for a decent 1 bedroom, be preparted to spend bare minimum $1000 to $1300 a month plus hydro. For a 2 bedroom, you'll be looking at least $1300 - $1800. You can of course find things slightly cheaper, but thats not the norm, and they won't be very clean, and trust me, in a big city, you don't want to live in a dirty apartment. I'm 24 years old and make $56K a year and I'm in theadvertising/marketing field. Toronto does have crazy weather, but it will never be 30 degress one day, than -3 the next. That will never happen. Our weather can be strange. We have really hot, humid summer, and we can often has cold, damp winters. The only reason I would suggest Vancouver, as someone else did, is the distance from Glasgow...it will make your travels home to visit much harder to do. Good luck!

Economy in Canda is not as bad as you might have thought but getting a job all depends on your field & the job you are looking for. If you are looking for a decent apartment in a clean & nice neighbourhood, the rent can be a thousand dollars & up for a one bedroom apartment. Salaries all depends on the job. I work for a Government Agency & therefore I don't have a clue. Your partner might not have a problem getting a visa as you are a Canadian citizen .

I'm not from Toronto, so I'll leave that part to someone else. You having a Canadian passport only affects your partner if you are married - he could then get citizenship. It shouldn't negatively affect your partner being granted a visa. I really recommend you call the Canadian Embassy/ High Commission to ask them more detailed questions about this.

I live in Toronto and I'm about to move to the U.S. pretty soon. But I'll let you know that Toronto is an awesome city and you won't be disappointed to what it has to offer. I cannot make a comparison between Toronto and Glascow because I've never seen Glascow. As for job security, the recession is not bad here at all. At least not as bad as the U.S. is dealing with right now. I believe only if you're working in the auto industry, will you have trouble finding a job in Toronto. Rent is relatively high price compared to most parts in the country, but if you're living in a cosmopolitan and vibrant city, that's to be expected. It all depends where you live in Toronto. If you find a place in the city suburbs (e.g. Etobicoke, Scarborough), it will be cheaper and shouldn't cost more than $1000 for a 2 bedroom apartment. But if you live in the downtown core or in the hipster neighbourhoods (like Queen West), it'll most likely cost $1200 or more. Here are some pros and cons of Toronto: Pro +Awesome downtown neighbourhoods +Excellent public transit (TTC runs extensive bus service, and frequent subway service every 5 minutes or less) +Multiculturalism means variety of people and cusine +High standard of living +Extremely low crime (80 murders a year for a 3 million population, incredibly small) +Fun nightlife Cons -Horrible, horrible winters (it's not uncommon for the temperature to drop -30C) -Traffic congestion, especially in the suburbs -Ugly architecture -Weather in general is bad: It's too hot in the summer and can be unpredictable (e.g. one day it's 20C, the next it'll be -3C) Other than that, I think you'll like the city of Toronto. Especially since you're from the UK, there's a lot of similarities I heard with that country.

No, Toronto is a very overrated city to live in. Too over-populated and extremely expensive. If you're coming back to Canada, I strongly recommend Vancouver. It's also quite expensive, but as one the best ranked cities in the world, I'd say it's worth it. Your partner shouldn't have much of a problem getting a Visa.Call the Canadian Embassy if you aren't sure, or check their website. As for the recession and getting a job, it really depends on your skills and the demand for them. Canada's recession isn't as bad as the US's though.
