What is a good place to live in Philly?

Would you recommend Toronto as a good place to live for what I'm looking for?

  • I am looking to move to Canada after I graduate college. The U.S. has served me well, but I am looking for something different. I have always admired the Canadian culture and think it's a good fit for me. I am kind of intrigued by Toronto. The two things I am looking for most is a large city with plenty of diverse cultures and scholarly things to do, and also a place that will allow me to use my degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science (Maybe as a fisheries biologist or working for an agricultural firm of sorts?) Are there a lot of jobs like that up there? Would you recommend this city to me, for what I'm looking for in a place to live? Thanks so much for the help!

  • Answer:

Toronto is a wonderful city to live. We are very culturally diverse and we are proud of it, and there is practically no racial tension. It is also the safest large city in North America according to 2007 statistics. There is plenty of culture here and something for everyone to do so you wont have any trouble finding what you like. There is plenty of fishing and wildlife on the outskirts of Toronto and in the city, but a suburb of Toronto may be what your looking for after you graduate. But there are tons of places to go to school here. Toronto accepts everyone with open arms, especially if you want to come and make this a better place. Hope you will further consider our great city, or Canada.

Here are Toronto's upsides. One, it's probably the safest big city in North America. The crime levels are incredibly low. Two, it is a big city and there are plenty of job opportunities as well as universities. I speak from the experience of being born in Toronto, then moving to the US and living in Baltimore until I was 14, and then moving back to Toronto for my high school years. If you don't mind crappy weather, it's a pretty good place to live. But understand, it gets really cold in the winter, and frankly if you don't like cold weather you shouldn't waste your time in Toronto. Honestly, looking at what you are interested in I would think Vancouver would sit you better than Toronto, but hey that's just me. Word of advice, don't even think about Montreal. There really wouldn't be any language barriers for you as an American living in Toronto or Vancouver, but I mean Montreal is a whole different level. Damn French Canadians (yes I spelled it the right way you damn Frenchies) are not only assholes, but they speak French so unless you speak French you will have no idea what in the hell they are saying.

Yea I think you would find Toronto a great city to live in. Its full of culture, and is right by a lake that probably still has at least some fish in it :). Seriously though I would highly recommend it.

Toronto would be a good choice. But if you have a degree in Wildlife and Fisheries Science you have to move to Vancouver. there would be a lot more oppertunities in Vancouver for fisheries than in Toronto.
