What does a transit bus weigh?

How will Brampton Transit's new Züm bus rapid transit system play a role on YRT/BT bus services?

  • Hey guys, I was wondering if one of you lads have heard about a new bus rapid transit system for Brampton, also know as Züm (pronounced Zoom, not Zcum). I also heard that the route 77 bus route that is currently operated between York Region Transit and Brampton Transit will come to an end, once Züm is fully deployed. The "torch" for the 77 is going to be in YRT's hands. How will Züm play a role on the current YRT services and Brampton Transit services along the Highway 7 corridor? What about the fare situation if I start my destination and end at my destination that I intend to go within York Region? Are any drop-off and pickup privileges for Züm are allowed - if I start and end my destination in York Region or do I need to still use YRT/VIVA services for the local trips? Answers on a postcard! PS, if you want to read about this new BRT service, click here: http://www.brampton.ca/en/residents/transit/zum/Pages/welcome.aspx

  • Answer:

Viva and Züm will provide combined frequent service between Woodbridge (Highway 7 and Martin Grove) and York University, stopping at all vivastations along the way. Züm will accept York Region tickets and passes at stops in York Region.

Zum will travel along Queen Street East (aka Regional Road 7, formerly Highway 7) from downtown Brampton and stop at select locations, one of which is at the end of our street (the Zum terminals are being readied now, and are mostly done -- just have to install the "real time" ...whatchacallems at each bus stop) and Bramalea City Centre to York (where it goes there I have no idea). They did a lot of roadwork to accomodate Zum also. It will replace the current YRT/BT bus service. If you start your trip in Brampton and travel to York, yes you'll still need to use the YRT/VIVA to get to your destination if your destination isn't within walking distance of Zum and vice versa. It's supposed to go faster than what's available now.
