Living in Canada vs USA?

Living in America VS Living in Canada?

  • Alright. I'm an American currently living in Ohio. I would absolutely LOVE to live in Canada mainly because of the Healthcare system, good stories I've heard about the general atmosphere, attitude towards African-Americans, etc etc. I'm seriously considering moving to Toronto. I live off of SSI here in the states because I have a few disabilities which prevent me from being able to work, unfortunately. I was wondering, in a nutshell, how the Canadian Government works when it comes to those who are disabled (I have Schizo-affective Bipolar-type Disorder, and Social Anxiety Disorder). What is the Canadian version of SSI in the U.S. and how does it work? Toronto: What are some good areas, and what are the areas to steer clear from? In your opinion, what is the overall mood of the City? Does it have a good nightlife, good schools, average price of living, etc. Also, may I have a gist of what I will have to go through when immigrating? What are some pros and cons of living in Canada VS living in America? I know this is a lot to ask, but I will appreciate each and every answer and value your input greatly. Thank you VERY much in advance!

  • Answer:

I'm afraid I have some very bad news for you: Canada is indeed a great place to live. However, to come here, you must either be sponsored by family, or have a skill of profession that is in demand in Canada. Or, bring loads of money to set up businesses That's about it. Here, you would be a burden on the Social Assistance, and Healthcare systems of whatever province you moved to, and they will not allow that. To come here, you are in fact prevented from drawing from those places for a set number of years. The details are here: www.cic.gc.ca/english/index.asp

Capitalgentelman has given you the basic truth. Canada won't accept someone , as a Immigrant, who cannot support themselves by working here . Period. Part of the application process is a medical examination. You wouldn't pass it. Sorry. Feel free to come and visit us any time, as a tourist. Jim B. Toronto,

yeah.. umm i am from Edmonton, Alberta. and i live in America now. Canada will not let you in with those health records, becasue they do have free health care they dont take in Non-Canadians with health problems, because they do not want to pay for it all. Also you will need a Job (without a job canada wont let you in), and it took me like a year to try and move to America, because of citizenship, and diffeent rules each country has. you could move to Canada, it is possible, but you would need to find a job, send your health records to Canadas Gov and wait till they approve it, which could be years, then after that find a house and what not. it would be a long process.
