Where's a good place to mix my instrumental with my vocal?

Moving to Toronto, Wheres the best place to live?

  • I recently decided to leave the UK and start a new live abroad. For some reason Toronto appeals to me. Now before you ask, I know you need to pass a test before settling down in Canada. But i also know that people who want to invest over a certain amount do not need to take any test. Since i have a healthy bank balance there is no need to debate the residency issues. Anyway back to my questions. I need to know the best place to live in Toronto, I am a Muslim and looking to rent a apartment before taking the plunge and buying a home, I have looked at a place called the bridal path, but its to isolated for me, as i will be living alone, i would rather be near a nice community. Also i have been thinking of opening a restaurant, where would be a good place. Somewhere classy, but not ostentatious. Finally, wheres is a good place to meet women in Toronto, apart from singles night at some trashy bar. lol

It sounds like you have your heart set on Toronto, but you may be making a big mistake. I work here, but commute in to the city every day from Hamilton. Toronto is a very cosmopolitan city and it has had a great past. However, for the last ten years it has been governed by a socialist city council. These people are very anti-business and are doing their best to discourage any kind of investment or growth. For a quick briefing on some of their antics have a look at Sue Ann Levy's columns in the Toronto Sun (link below). If you are going to come to Toronto, and you can afford the Bridal Path, then you can afford just about anything in the city. There are a number of rather spectacular condos along the city's lakefront. I'm sure you could find something there, very close to downtown. Also, property in that area is likely to be a good investment. A major on-again, off-again waterfront re-development is on-again to support the recent awarding of the 2015 Pan Am Games to Toronto. You're on your own when it comes to meeting women here. The waterfront is very close to Toronto's banking and business centre. There are many high-end restaurants and clubs in the area which are patronized by a well-heeled clientele. Also, Toronto is home to a large Muslim community so there are many mosques and Muslim activity centres. Welcome to Toronto. Just don't expect good government. In response to Mug R, don't take my word for it. Most Torontonians who have rated Mayor Miller on the City Mayors website agree he's seriously damaged the city: http://www.citymayors.com/mayor_monitor/toronto-miller.html His handling of the garbage strike was universally panned and likely led to his first intelligent decision which was not to run again: http://www.nationalpost.com/story.html?id=1842521 And, he's a tax and spend Bolshevik: http://flaggman.wordpress.com/2007/10/23/marxist-mayor-miller/ Nothing wrong with Yorkville other than astronomical cost and latte-sipping Hollywood wanabees. It's where I used to hang my hat when I lived in Toronto - before sanity finally caught hold.

Mike K, do you believe everything Sue Ann Levy writes or what. LOL. I'd love to see some conservatives get voted as much as the next guy. But to discourage someone from moving here based on your own politics is pretty lame. Toronto is known as a great city around the world and it seems it is easier for immigrants and visitors to see how great it is than our own people. Mike you must have never lived in Toronto before because no local would recommend the lakefront, there is a complete disconnect with the rest of downtown, no good restaurants, and mostly tourist traps. For a great place to live, look into the Annex. Yorkville would also be a great place to live if you have a nice bank account. For opening a restaurant, I would wait until you live here for a while and know your area because the Toronto restaurant business is TOUGH. Mike, I see you have saved every single negative story about Toronto over the years. But there are just as many positive stories about Toronto and not just our government that you probably don't care about because I guess you are extremely negative and just don't like Toronto which is fine. The fact that you would move to Hamilton instead says you just weren't meant for the big city. I am not happy with miller and would agree that he has hurt the city, but we still have it better than most cities in North America. Most city residents aren't happy with their government, especially in this country full of complainers.

Is very important to try to find comfort and security within a new place to live, however it also depends on what your capable of spending and what your needs are like. Great areas of Toronto: 1) Bayview area: Great environment, beautiful surroundings, parks, and is very close to the city public. 2) Forest Hill area: Is also a great environment, libraries, lots of schools therefore lots of families, and very nice and friendly area. Its also quiet which can be an advantange if you want to rest from work and city transit. 3) Richmond Hill: is not really in the downtown area or very close to the parts of Toronto where perhaps you want to be, however is really nice and you will enjoy living there. there 3 areas mention so far which are very nice and sounds great, but of course it all comes with a price: Apts of 1-2 bedrooms or bachelorette is between $750-$1,075 In other areas is below this digits, but dont expect the same parks, environment, and other things that may be offer, however if you look really good you may find better places at cheaper prices in this same areas but that's what the costs are around right now.

Since you're looking at the Bridle Path, I'm assuming you're looking for fairly upscale living arrangements. The Bay/Bloor area is very nice and central and there are lots of rental opportunities there. Otherwise, the harbourfront is nice, too, as another respondent suggested. Yonge st between Eglinton and the 401 has a large number of spots that would be good to open a restaurant. Most businesses there are pretty upscale, but not over the top. If you want to check out the over-the-top ostentatious restaurants, then check out Elm St. down town. As for meeting women, I have no clue, sorry... ;)

Seeing as your Muslim, I would say that a good community for you to live in where there are a lot of brown people would be Brampton. There is one side of Brampton that is full of brown people and it's a good place to live! You may also want to consider living in Scarborough or a place in Toronto called Etobicoke [I don't know what it's like over there right now, but a couple of years ago like 6-7 years ago it was pretty full of Brown people, if your looknig to live in a building there are some buildings with a majority of Brown people.. although apartments get broken into - my cousins did!] A good place to meet women in Toronto.. I don't know LOL, why not go to the Mosque or something.. Anyways hope you make the right decision =] Good luck with everything you do !

I don't understand people who ask for the best place to live without giving any ideas as to what is good to them. Do you like Greek food? The Danforth. Do you want to walk through a park every day? High Park. Do you like Chinese? Chinatown. Afraid of non-whites? Avenue/Lawrence. Like Jews? Bathurst. Like Art? How about next to the AGO? Come on. Give us something to work with here. You can meet women everywhere in Toronto. Just about half the people here are female. What's so isolated about the Bridal Path? Lots of people live around there. You can pop onto Bayview which is a rather busy street. Isolated is Goodwood or Uxbridge.
