Minimum age for crossing Canada US Border?

Canada Vacation - Crossing the border with dog?

  • Hi there! My family and I will be taking a vacation to Canada for spring break towards the end of March. We are planning on taking our 1 yr. old Shih-Tzu named Cosmo, with us. (We will be driving up there.) This would be our first time going to Canada and crossing the border. I was just a little a nervous about taking Cosmo along because I'm afraid that we won't be able to get BACK INTO the U.S. smoothly. We talked to our vet and she gave us all the proper paperwork and health certificate he needs to get INTO CANADA but, I just want to make sure everything goes smoothly TO AND FROM Canada. I don't know why I'm so nervous; I think it's just because it's our first time. Any one who has crossed the Canada border with a dog is encouraged to comment and tell me your experience. Any help/comments are GREATLY APPRECIATED! I'll be picking a best answer! Thanks so much!

  • Answer:

If you have visited your vet that is the first step in visiting and crossing in either direction. These are the pages of information you need. It is not a complicated process. As well as things for Fluffy you need papers for the humans too. For CANADA look here http://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/anima/imp/petani/canine.shtml for Return https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/55/session/L3NpZC9yNzhUdFdTaw%3D%3D Happy Travels. Put a tag on FIDO with your phone number in case you get lost and Fido needs to find you.
