Could I study and work at Canada? (Please read, I'm desperate!)?
-
I have a girlfriend who I love, and I intend to marry her. I want to spend the rest of my life with her. The thing is... her parents don't accept me (not that there's something bad about me, but because I'm not asian and they are, and they don't want the cultures to mix). Not only that, but my girlfriend is probably moving to Canada, to study and probably stay and work over there. I received the news on monday and I can't stop thinking of what I can do. I have a friend who lives at Canada (in Montreal if I'm not mistaken?) and if I can talk to him, I may be able to stay at his house when I arrive to Canada. We used to be both neighbors and classmates, but it's been a couple of years since we last talked to each other (we didn't have any fight, just we stopped talking for no reason). What should I do? I'm guessing I'll need a student Visa and apply to a college. Will I be able to pay for my college if I work over there? I wanted to study at USA but my parents couldn't afford my college over there, and I'm wishing I can work at Canada to help pay for it. If there's any way I can apply to a scholarship I wish to know. I'm the best grade in my class and I don't care if I have to study 24/7. I don't have much of a social life to sacrifice anyways. Is rent expensive at Canada? Are colleges/universities expensive? What universities would you recommend at Montreal? Is McGuill good and affordable for me? What else do I need to think about if I want to study at Canada? If I finish my studies at Canada and wish to stay, work and live over there (in case I can meet my girlfriend at Canada and she wishes to stay with me no matter what) what can I do to stay? I don't wish to stay illegaly in a foreign country, and I wouldn't marry a Canadian woman just to get a citizenship. Please help. I'm desperate. Thank you.

Answer:
Yes you can apply for a student visa and a student work permit but first you must be accepted by an accredited University. This is the government site with all the information .http://www.cic.gc.ca/EnGLIsh/study/study.asp McGill is an excellent University if your girlfriend is coming to Montreal. There are several thousand foreign students there and their student services can advise you once you are accepted. http://www.mcgill.ca/

First of all, don't panick. You can come and visit in Canada for up to six months at a time without a visa. Second, yes you can come to a Canadian college. Once accepted the college or university will help you fill out the paperwork to get it. You can also apply to work part-time while you go to school. Third, if you get a full-time job offer from a Canadian company you can stay in the country. Good luck and welcome aboard.
