Where can I get married in Niagara Falls?

Honeymoon at Niagara Falls, Canada?

  • My fiance and I are getting married on Saturday, June 11, 2011. We will hopefully leave for our honeymoon on Sunday, June 12, and depart for home on Wednesday, June 15. We're not positive on the location just yet, but we're thinking about going to Niagara Falls and staying on the Canadian side (I've heard it's much nicer than the US side). I have a few questions: 1 - Is June a good month to visit the falls? 2 - We're on a budget. Can you recommend a hotel: -------------nice -------------fairly cheap -------------close to the falls and other attractions (we'd like to cut the cost of renting a car if at all possible) -------------Preferably one with a jacuzzi or hot tub in the room, and a television as well, but these are both negotiable 3 - While visiting the falls, what are some must-do activities for a first timer that may never get a chance to go back again? 4 - My fiances not a big drinker, and we're neither big gamblers, so what are some fun indoor activities we can partake in? 5 - Should I renege my previous statement and rent a car? Or is the area pedestrian-friendly?

  • Answer:

If your staying close to the falls then the area is VERY pedestrian friendly! If you book ahead online, you can usually get a pretty good rate (you may want to check http://infoniagara.com/lodging.aspx). You can find various indoor activities at (http://infoniagara.com/thingstodo.aspx). I highly recommend the midway on Clifton Hill for at least a few hours of fun, it's basically a huge arcade with lots of types of games. And if you get board, you can go along the hill and do things such as laser tag, haunted houses, etc. I'm not sure if it would make sense to rent a car, most of the tourist areas, such as clifton hill, have no areas to park in, and if your on a tight budget, and don't want to have to pay for parking ($5 at each lot), it may be safer to walk/take the bus. Hope this helps

Yes the idea you have best and the approach you are having is right. You can also go to Toronto that is just 2 hrs away but certainly there is lot more to explore there. If you need cheap and good car at rent then you can book at http://carsrentalcanada.com/ . Also you can explore more about what you explore and what place that you can look out for at http://gocanada.about.com/od/toronto/tp/torontodaytrips.htm . Was nice helping.

The falls area itself is very pedestrian friendly. You can also buy a ticket on trams that take you to different stops along the way. This would be way cheaper than renting a car and paying parking. parking close to the falls will cost you $20! Insane! Also --- I would def stay on the Canadian side, We have stayed at the Hilton and they have hot tubs and falls view rooms, prepare to pay the extra you would have spent on a rental car to stay there! Although jeeze its your honeymoon - spend the bux on a nice room! (also, if the higher end hotehavecve shuttles and will likely drive you to somewhere if you want to go outside the main area) I hate that people always sell the American Side short! I think the state park there is amazing. More natural, uncrowded, you can get right next to the falls from a lot of vantage points and you can even walk out over bridges onto islands in the rapids before the water goes over the falls. The Maid of the Mist runs from Canadian AND American side. The ride is essentially the same view, but access is cheaper and less crowded from the American Launch. Also, once you are down at the launch dock, you can walk along a boardwalk right next to the falls for FREE. Finally If you aren't a drinker or gambler I suggest a great side trip See if your hotel shuttle would take you to Niagara- On-The-Lake. The Canadian side of the Falls can be loud, full of cheap attractions, bright lights, bad food and tacky souvenirs. N-O-T-L would give you a touch of Romance in your honeymoon - it's a quaint victorian town with beautiful flowers, charming streets, lovely shops and nicer restaurants. You can even take a leisurely horse drawn carriage ride around the town. How sweet is that? Happy Honeymoon!

yes the Canadian side id much nicer. yep june is a good month to go in its summer and the Maid of the Mist is open. i don't their too expensive we stayed at a falls were also walking distance from the falls there's a tv not sure about the hot tub. must do stuff- Maid of the Mist you go right at thebottomm of the falls,I'vev heard its really cool. The skylon tower; it's like a mini version of the CN tower in Toronto and there is a relovingrestaurantt at the top. Good date spot. the sky wheel it's like a huge farris wheel; great view of the falls. i'm scaird of heights and i'v been on it 3 times. there's a butterfly conservitory;hunreds of butterflys it's really cool btw it's really hot in the butterfly place so wear a t-shirt and the butterflys are attracted to bright colours. there's mini golf, 2 world records museums. as i said above everthings fairly close you may have to rent a car for a day or two so you'd have to plan the further away things o thoes days.

mozzletof 1. June is a great time to go. it's warm most of the seasonal attractions will be open and since school is still on there is very few tourist so it will not be busy and you can still get a decent price on a hotel. 2. I like to stay at the howard johnson by the falls, it has everything you are looking for and is walking distance to clifton hill 3. Maid of the mist is amazing 4. there are many indoor things to do arcades, museums, butterfly conservatory, and a few water parks 5. when choosing a hotel find one that has shuttles(the howard johnson one i mention has one) they will take you to some of the bigger attractions. I would also recommend getting a people movers bus pass it stops at all the tourist areas located on niagara parkway. that should take care of most of the major attractions in the area and you would not need a car. If you were wanting to go to niagara on the lake for a day or something like that then rent a car. There is also a package you can get through niagara parks that gives you 2 days on the people movers bus and attraction pass to maid of the mist, white water walk, journey behind the falls, and niagara fury for a great price

There really is not very much to do except to stare at the Falls and go to the casino and eat (mostly overpriced places), which you can do in a day. Here is a suggestion: Do rent a car but stay at a moderately priced place in the St. Catharines - Grimsby area and drive to see the Falls (about 45 minutes away). You may not be big drinkers but how about wine tasting? - the area along the south coast of Lake Ontario is one of Canada's two prime grape growing and wine producing areas. The quaint and charming town of Niagara-On-The-Lake is also nearby. Also, the same escarpment that is responsible for the Falls continues and runs parallel to the lake only a couple of miles south of it and some smaller rivers also tumble over it with their own lovely waterfalls but no commercial honky-tonky. And you can also visit Toronto.
