How to find a Lawyer to sue a Bank (Montreal )?

  • Hi I need to find a lawyer to go against National Bank. I do not know how much money a lawyer may can get of the story. The problem in a few words: I brought to the bank some checks I received from the Internet. I told them that I suspect that they are not good checks. They told me that I had first to put on my account and they could verify for me with NO charge and NO contingencies. After they charged me $ 200 fees for verification and the closed my account because they were thinking that I am a thief. I asked at least my money back and they insulted me. _____________________ I think a good lawyer may get a nice compensation of the entire story - I do not know how much. Part of this money will be my lawyer's payment. I want to go to court to defend my HONOR most of all. I know not about lawyers and courts. But I feel so insulted. Can I find a lawyer somehow? Or would be better to put a YOUTUBE video and send a letter to BBB? How to find a lawyer for this case in Montreal? I would more than grateful for any answer / advice.

If you are Canadian it's "honour"...not "honor". That aside, if you want a lawyer then open your local phone book. Any of them could handle it for a cost however if all you are out is $200 don't go expecting any sort of a big settlement. Better yet, take them to small claims court yourself. You may get your money back at least. No court is going to care about your honour or that you felt insulted.

You appear to have walked into this without knowing about banks. By depositing the cheques to your account, you accepted the fees involved in NSF (not sufficient funds) and dishonoured cheques. A lawyer will get an easy 50 000 out of this and possibly more, all of which you will have to pay if the bank wins. Take the advice about filing with the Autorite ... in the other answer.
