How's the work as UPS package handler , I am supposed to start at the one in Montreal ,Canada?
-
I hear it's physically demanding however I have worked in Construction, cement work, tiles etc, home renovations-demolition ,and woodwork. I want to eventually become a UPS Driver. I am probably going to do the afternoon shift from 1 to 5. They say there's packages up to 75 pounds, are most of them that weight or less. I don't mind 75 pounds inless it's 135 boxes of that weight lol.I am 25 , 6''0 and 175 pounds ,so I shouldn't have a problem with the labour. Anybody who has worked there or know people who have worked there, what's you're or there experience

Answer:
Great company. Just look at it as getting paid to workout. Take water with you to work and make sure you lift with your legs and keep your back straight. It was the best shape I had ever been in my life and a lot of fun.

I'm a load coach at a FedEx Ground hub and have seen my colleagues purge new-hires like no tomorrow due to just how demanding the job is. The training videos--for dock workers--do not accurately display how difficult it is to work and thrive in that environment. While I am sure things are different at UPS, FedEx's standards are pretty high. Load rate is 421 packages per hour (standard by the way; engineered to be the average load rate regardless of physical conditioning, age, etc) which factors out to loading one package every seven seconds. While this doesn't sound like much, it's actually quite a feat to maintain this when a) wrapping up the work area, b) getting slammed by incompatible packages. Since you're working a noon-day shift you'll have to easier compared to the twilight due to the dispatch times. If you are going to be on a loadside you will be fine if you get used to using the ring scanner quickly, and remember to build walls from side-to-side rather than from floor to ceiling. If you can quickly establish the foundation for a wall--by that I mean sixteen packages scanned and neatly loaded into a sturdy base for support--you'll have zero problem being an effective worker. And make sure your bellies are perfect. When building bellies it's a lot like laying a kitchen tile. If one thing is crooked it destroys the entire process. Most importantly: load quality helps efficiency. As a loader you'll be compensating for a bad wall for three more. Drill the brick layer method into your skull! UPS offers more short term incentives than Ground. Express, I'm not so sure of. Hopefully you'll have driven coworkers that can show you the ropes. But bear in mind that this job is not for everyone so please don't hinder your coworkers. :)
