    There are a ton of decent condos/apartments in the Inner South west area. There is some really cheap condos in the East Village area, Bankview, Richmond, Knob-Hill Areas. Go South-west from 17 AVE SW and 14 street sw and head up the hill there are quite a few appartments and condos. Good Luck!

generally the north east is a cheaper area. and usually the farther out you go the cheaper it gets, but not always. i lived in the city last year in a one bedroom for $765 and then i bought a condo far out in the northwest but in the building i'm in people are charging $1200 plus for rent. you just have to look around and try to score a deal. but if you don't mind the northeast than you should start your search there. good luck.
