Rent a car in Calgary, without credit card?

It's almost impossible to rent a car without a credit card - and that goes for everywhere. The reason is, while you may be willing to pay the bill when you return the car, some people just drive away and the car never comes back. If you have a credit card registered at the rental agency, they can simply charge you for the cost of the car. Your grandpa should contact his credit card company and ask for another card, and tell them the original was lost, so they can invalidate it.

All rental companies will expect to have a valid credit card on file in the event the car receives damage NOT covered by insurance (which an accident or theft would be) or if your use of the car incurs extra costs-for instance if someone smokes in the car,the company has to pay an employee to clean the car much more thoroughly and this increases labour cost,they have to have a card on file and will charge you for that. The same applies if a renter takes a dog in a car and doesn't clean up the hair or footprints on seats-or a pet "accident".(some rental companies prohibit pets-period)The bottom line is rental companies don't go out and look the car over the minute you take it back to them-it may be several hours before they inspect it (or have people available to) -so for this reason you WILL need a credit card.
